An update for Jane, Joan, and the Elusive Johanna
SATURDAY, JANUARY 14, 2012
I wrote Jane, Joan, and the Elusive Johanna poem 7 years ago. (See the last posting in the March 2005 archive) Wow! I can't believe it was 7 years ago that I attended my first Artist's Way workshop. I have done so much to balance my life since then. Yes, I can still overload my schedule and it can become unbalanced one way or another... BUT... I am much better at taking time for myself now. Johanna has been in control for quite a few years now. I chose the names Jane, Joan, and Johanna because the names Jane and Joan are only one letter different. My thinking at the time was that changing one letter the "e" and the "o" represented the different sides of my personality...kind of like introvert/extrovert. Johanna, the one that blends the two personalities together, probably should have been Jonetta...taking all of the letters of Jane and Joan and adding one letter.
....my updated Jane, Joan, and the Elusive Johanna poem....

The Elusive Jonetta (updated from 2005)
Jane and Joan were not always friends
they lived their lives from different ends.
Jane made lists, and checked them twice,
a stickler for details and always precise.
Joan’s life was arranged in stacks and piles,
her mind full of ideas too many to file.
Jane was all work and Joan... all play,
Joan daydreamed away large parts of the day
Joan needed Jane to organize her life,
to keep her on track, to give her advise.
Jane needed Joan to give her life meaning,
to help her to see her reason for being.
Through most of their lives one or the other,
took the lead and the other would suffer.
But as the years... rolled along,
both of these selves became equally strong.
The two selves began to synchronize,
and occasionally emerged to their surprise.
Jonetta, the artist with organizational skills,
in touch with her emotions, in touch with her will.
Jonetta would stay as long as she could,
and hoped to someday be home for good,
but she would be gone as fast as she came,
when her life became unbalanced again.
(alternative ending)
The two selves began to synchronize,
and then emerged to their surprise.
Jonetta, the artist with organizational skills,
in touch with her emotions, in touch with her will.
She was truly amazed at each new day,
and what it brought to brighten her way.
