Jesus’ Lessons
Brenda Kerr, 2004
(This was my first attempt at writing a song. I was reading books about the history of religion when I wrote Jesus' Lessons. I am very intrigued with how religions develop, how the new testiment was put together, how people who follow Christian, Jewish, and Muslim religions view their "bible" stories.)
Chorus
Jesus’ lessons, spiritual gold,
[Are the] greatest stories, ever told.
Parables, and sayings that teach,
New wisdom and compassion, ideals we should reach.
Verse 1
He saw what was hap'ning a world divided,
The pure would receive what God provided.
He knew this division was not God's intent.
To change this direction was why he was sent.
And he told the people about new ways,
how everyday wisdom had gone astray.
What God really wanted was us to love one another,
to have undying compassion for our sisters and brothers.
Bridge:
You see purity divides, and excludes,
but compassion unites, and includes,
justification by works, had been the law,
but redemption is through the grace of God.
And he told the people about new ways,
how everyday wisdom had gone astray.
Chorus 2
Told stories over and over, many a times,
and changed for occasion and for the time.
They helped people to remember and share what they heard.
Share the new wisdom, share God's word.
Verse 2
These wonderful stories still draw us in.
They invite us, they inspire us to follow him.
He repeated his stories at each event.
He changed the specifics but not what he meant.
He taught compassion and redemption through grace,
the old laws and ways to be replaced.
And he told the people about new ways,
how everyday wisdom had gone astray.
These wonderful stories still draw us in,
they invite us, they inspire us to follow him.
Ending Chorus
Jesus’ lessons spiritual gold,
Are the greatest stories, ever told.
